Beware of Counterfeit Money, Embracing Cashless For a Safer Transaction

Jakarta, 26/03 - The revelation of the counterfeit money factory at Alauddin National Islamic University, Makassar, South Sulawesi, has brought a deep concern to society. Based on the report, the factory had printed 4.906 sheets of money with nominal Rp 100 K and another 972 sheets of uncut money. What brings deep concern is that the counterfeit money claimed to have been printed as good money. 

However Bank of Indonesia (BI) has informed that the counterfeit money is a low quality product. The way to detect is able to do with the simple method, by seeing and touching. BI also claimed they already checked the sample of the money for further examination.

After the examination, the counterfeit money was not printed by using a money printing machine. The counterfeiter is known to only use printing machine standards. The printing machine that was claimed by the counterfeiter bought from China also known not yet used to print money. The machine also knew that it did not meet any standard to print money. 

BI also verified the money does not have any safety element such as microlens, watermark, electrotype, and UV image. Therefore, the standard recognition method is easily able to detect any counterfeit money.

The methods of Rupiah recognition are able to do so by its brightness and the color looks clear, different from counterfeit money that look dull and faded. The texture of genuine money also feels rough when touched, while counterfeit money tends to be softer and thinner. Moreover, the genuine money shows specific watermark and BI logo while illuminated, something that counterfeit money does not have those visual characteristics.  

To anticipate any transaction using counterfeit money, a cashless method can be the most effective way. This method can be completed without any cash money, hence we do not need to keep the money physically. The risk is also lower than transactions with cash money.
