Jakarta, 30/07 - Bank Mandiri (Persero} Tbk. and PT Mitra Transaksi Indonesia (MTI), part of the Bank Mandiri Group known as YOKKE, fully support the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government's initiative to become a Global City. This support is realized by providing easy transportation for the public on the Jakarta MRT with contactless transactions (EMV Contactless). This payment innovation is the first of its kind to be implemented in public transportation services in Indonesia.
The implementation of contactless transactions will also make it easier for MRT Jakarta users to tap in and out without having to top up their electronic money. The introduction of the EMV Contactless system is part of the transformation of the public transportation system to be easier, faster, and meet international standards.
The inauguration of the contactless transaction system (EMV Contactless) was carried out by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at the Bundaran HI MRT Station in Central Jakarta. This system is a collaboration between the Jakarta Provincial Government, Bank Indonesia, Bank Mandiri, Mastercard, Visa, and MTI as payment service providers.
Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung stated that the implementation of EMV Contactless will strengthen Jakarta's reputation as a global city, similar to Singapore, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Sydney. This contactless transaction system will further facilitate residents and tourists, allowing them to use credit cards for transportation.
"The contactless EMV (Contactless) credit card payment system on the Jakarta MRT is the first of its kind in Indonesia, allowing people to use their credit cards directly. As a global city, Jakarta must align with other cities that have implemented this system to provide convenience and attract tourists," said Pramono.
MTI CEO Sylvia Novieta stated that the implementation of EMV Contactless demonstrates Bank Mandiri and MTI's commitment to supporting Jakarta as an inclusive and competitive global city. With EMV Contactless, Jakarta will have improved connectivity, becoming a globally connected city that continues to develop sustainably.
"MTI, as a payment service provider, will continue to support Jakarta's sustainable development as a global city. This EMV Contactless service is part of our commitment to providing secure and innovative services to facilitate transactions and support the mobility of residents and international tourists," said Sylvia.
With the acceptance of EMV contactless credit card payments at all Jakarta MRT stations, Mastercard and Visa credit card holders from around the world can now use their payment cards to travel from all Jakarta MRT stations.
President Director of PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) Tuhiyat said that this payment method aims to improve customer convenience and experience, especially for international tourists. Through this initiative, Jakarta can be said to be on par with more than 150 other metropolitan cities worldwide, such as Singapore, Tokyo, Shanghai, and New York, which have already introduced EMV payment features in their public transportation systems.
"This EMV-based digital payment method is part of MRT Jakarta's efforts to support an inclusive payment system for all customers, including those from outside Indonesia who are accustomed to EMV transactions. We hope this effort will move Jakarta closer to its target of reaching the top 50 in the Global Cities Index by 2030," said Tuhiyat.
